One of the aims of the Hawaiki Nui project is to promote and reinvigorate Polynesian culture. This website is part of that, so we encourage you to join the virtual crew if you haven't already done so, to stay in touch with the project, and be updated as it progresses.

EXHIBITION

The previous achievements of Francis Cowan and Matahi Brightwell are currently on display as part of the Vaka Moana Exhibition at the Auckland Museum. The display includes interviews, photographs, archives, a model of Hawaiki Nui I and a tremendous background on Pacific voyaging. The exhibition will tour through Europe, North America, Japan and South East Asia until 2011. See www.aucklandmuseum.com/vakamoana for details.

DOCUMENTARY FILM

The Hawaiki Nui II project is being captured in a one-hour and feature-length documentary being shot in high definition for Maori Television, New Zealand. It is funded by New Zealand On Air, Te Māngai Pāho and Creative New Zealand and will be distributed internationally.
